United Kingdom passport holders are required to obtain a visa to visit Sri Lanka. If they are staying for less than 30 days, the Sri Lankan immigration authorities recommend that travellers obtain an online Electronic TRAVEL Authorization (ETA) before travelling.
ETA is an official authorization for a Short Visit to Sri Lanka and is issued electronically via the Internet. The ETA was introduced with the intention of providing an efficient, reliable and simplified service to those who visit Sri Lanka. ETA holders will be issued with a 30 day Short Visit Visa at the port of entry in Sri Lanka.
The ETA is issued through the official on-line system of the government of Sri Lanka. Their website is located at: https://www.eta.gov.lk
On arrival in Sri Lanka produce your passport to the immigration officer at the port of entry and if there are no matters of concern travellers should be able to obtain the necessary clearance and a 30 day visa. It is advisable that travellers take a printed copy of the online ETA approval notice along with them.
Passports should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry to Sri Lanka.
UK Emergency TRAVEL Documents are accepted for entry, airside transit and exit from Sri Lanka.
Overstaying or breaching visa conditions will attract a fine, possible detention and deportation.
